Is it true that mormons made Coca-cola even though they believe drinking caffeine is bad?

Question by Mani n Ivan Jnr: Is it genuine that mormons manufactured Coca-Cola even although they believe drinking caffeine is lousy?
I have heard two close friends of mine declaring that the mormons made Coca-cola. I never know if this correct or not. I only want mormons to answer this question.

Not unless they produced the cocaine that was first set in it.

The Mormon church didn’t make coca-cola. It is possible that members of the church made it (though I doubt it because cocaine was first used in it). We’re encouraged not to drink caffeine because of it’s addictiveness but it’s not a commandment and it does not go against the Word of Wisdom.
What we can’t drink is coffee and tea

A.) No. I don’t know who first started making Coke, but since there were actual narcotics involved in the early stuff, I highly doubt Mormons were involved. That would sort of go against our religion. Now? I’m sure there are individual Mormons who’ve invested in or work for the Pepsi Co. Mormons as a whole do not own it, though it wouldn’t be a problem if we did.
B.) Caffeine isn’t a problem. Excessive amounts would be bad, yes, but though we don’t drink coffee or tea, it was never about the caffeine. Common misconception, but still a misconception. We can drink Coke. We just can’t drink alcohol, coffee, or tea. Anything else if fair game.

First, the whole Coke owned by Mormons is and old one, check the snopes link. Second, as already been stated, Mormons (and oddly enough jehovah witness) take the same stance on beverages with caffeine. Basically, if it is obviously bad for you either don’t do it, or at least do it in moderation.

This is just an urban myth or unsupported rumor.

No, that’s just another faith-destroying rumor.

No No No. This is such a common rumor and it is completely ridiculous. Go to Yahoo Finance and pull up Coca-cola (The ticker is KO) and read about the history of the company. Also, look up the primary shareholders, last time I looked that largest shareholder was Warren Buffett.

No, it is not true, and like MOST internet myths about the Latter-day Saints, people should research things out for themselves and not assume everything they read or hear about is fact…….just a thought.

no. the coca-cola recipe was formulated by john pemberton at the eagle drug and chemical company in columbus, georgia-1886 as an “answer” to prohibition. the mormons do not own it.
mormons on the whole do not think caffeine is bad – although it is obviously not good for anyone in large amounts, many LDS do drink coca-cola, pepsi, mt dew……..caffeine is not against the WoW but some LDS do not drink it because they assume that since caffeine is in coffee (which is against the WoW) that they should not eat or drink anything with caffeine in it. most do not feel that way.

Not true.

Not true and caffeine is NOT bad! The church does not say “you can not or should not drink caffeine” some mormon families do not let there kids and do not partake in it them selves but that is there thing and the way they heard what was said but in no way does the church its self teach that.
