Medical Scholars Program from GE/NMF in 2011

A key NMF initiative is mentored externships that focus on improving the educational experiences of minority medical students that can also increase access of underserved populations to quality healthcare delivery. The GE/NMF Medical Scholars program enhances the knowledge skills and competencies of health professionals serving a diverse client population nationally and globally, provides a program model of mentored externship experiences for 4th year US minority medical students, and improves patient care in partner countries. GE/NMF Medical Scholars complete a two-month elective in Ghana or Uganda, West Africa that focuses on critical regional health care needs.
This two-month clinical/public health elective is conducted in district hospitals, and focuses on critical health care issues such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes, tuberculosis, heart disease, cancer, and infant mortality. [Read the rest of this entry...]

General Motors Endowed Scholarship

Criteria

Students must be one of the following:

  1. A minority or female employee of General Motors (including individuals on leave of absence or layoff)
  2. The minority spouse of a minority or female employee
  3. The female or minority child of a minority or female employee.

The student must submit a completed 2010-11 General Motors scholarship application (available at the Financial Aid office), and have a letter of verification of employment sent to the Financial Aid office. The verification letter should be sent by the Personnel Division at General Motor’s local operation. Deadline for letters and applications is June 1, 2010 for Fall 2010 semester or academic year (2010-11) scholarship consideration. The deadline for Spring 2011 semester applications is November 30, 2010. General Motors states that the maximum award that an individual may receive is $2,500/year. Further, a student may only receive this scholarship for a maximum of eight semesters, and the scholarship is limited to undergraduate students only. File a 2010-11 GM Scholarship application.
