A BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF CHINESE GOVERNMENT scholarship PROGRAMMES

In order to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people from all over the world, and to develop cooperation and exchanges in fields of politics, economy, culture, education and trade between China and other countries, Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship schemes to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to undertake studies and researches in Chinese higher education institutions (Chinese HEIs).

International students under Chinese Government Scholarship Programs (hereinafter referred to as scholarship students) will be allocated in Chinese HEIs or Chinese research institutes designated by the Ministry of Education of P. R. China (hereinafter referred to as MOE) to pursue their proposed studies in the areas related to science, technology, agriculture, medicine, Economics, law, management, education, history, liberal arts and philosophy.

MOE formulates Chinese government scholarship plans on an annual basis, and entrusts China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC) to manage the recruitment and carry out the routine management of Chinese Government Scholarship Programs.

Quick Facts

The China Scholarship Council (CSC) is a government agency in China which provides scholarships to students for doctoral and postdoctoral studies abroad. UBC has recently developed an agreement with the CSC and with specific Chinese universities to be a preferred host institution for CSC scholarship holders. These scholarships will be awarded to students across a wide range of disciplines. Deadline is mid-March.

Annual Value: $20,000 plus tuition costs

Deadline: Applicants must check with CSC for deadlines

Eligibility

Chinese citizens living in China and wanting to pursue doctoral studies at a North American university are eligible to apply. In order to apply for the CSC scholarship, a student normally must first have received a formal offer of admission from the UBC Faculty of Graduate Studies. By special arrangement, some students from Nankai, Sichuan, Jilin, and Nanjing Universities might be offered a CSC, contingent upon receiving an offer of admission from UBC. Medical Scholars Program from GE/NMF in 2011

A key NMF initiative is mentored externships that focus on improving the educational experiences of minority medical students that can also increase access of underserved populations to quality healthcare delivery. The GE/NMF Medical Scholars program enhances the knowledge skills and competencies of health professionals serving a diverse client population nationally and globally, provides a program model of mentored externship experiences for 4th year US minority medical students, and improves patient care in partner countries. GE/NMF Medical Scholars complete a two-month elective in Ghana or Uganda, West Africa that focuses on critical regional health care needs.
